Chungdong Church, established in 1897, stands as a testament to the early spread of Protestantism in Korea. Originally founded in 1887 as a small worship house named Bethel by American missionary Henry Gerhard Appenzeller, the church evolved significantly as its congregation grew. By 1895, it officially became a church and remains the only surviving 19th-century church building in Korea.

Original Structure: The church began as a cross-shaped building and was later expanded in 1926 into a square form using brick walls to preserve the original structure.
