Discover the Legacy of Henry Gerhart Appenzeller

The Appenzeller Noble Memorial Museum honors Henry Gerhart Appenzeller, the missionary who founded Korea’s first Western-style educational institution in 1885. The institution, which began with English and core subjects, eventually evolved into Pai Chai University, Pai Chai High School, and Pai Chai Middle School. Among its distinguished alumni is Rhee Syng-man, Korea’s first president. Opened in 2008 within the historic 1916 school building designated as a Seoul Monument, the museum offers a rich exploration of Korea’s educational history.
